Training up your business

Training is essential for businesses of any size.  Sales training for example can make the difference between success and business failure. Often businesses see training as an expensive way to retain and develop their workforce, instead of seeing its true value. Below are just a few reasons why we believe that training is a key element to any business.

Internal Training
Internal and ‘on-the-job’ training is a great way for businesses to train their staff. It’s cost effective and delivered by the expert in that particular field. Internal and ‘on-the-job’ training acts as a great foundation for new employees entering your business. However, the fact is that unfortunately internal training does have its limitations and can only do so much. Many businesses simply can’t provide a full spectrum of training internally. Instead companies will find more benefit from working with outside deliverers.

External training
A critical factor in any training is structure. Utilising the skills and specialism’s from external training providers will allow a structure to take shape by filling in the gaps left by the internal training. For example, a staff member working on a reception may have no sales or administration experience. Whilst their customer service skills may be excellent it means that the staff member is operating at around 30% efficiency. This wouldn’t be a good return on investment for a business; surprisingly this is very common amongst businesses. External training is a great way to fill in these gaps.

Training consultants
Many businesses outsource their training to consultants or organisations to meet their needs. Often the training is bespoke to their business aims and objectives to encourage staff ‘buy in’ and corporate, consistent approach. The advantages of using training consultants are that you can utilise their skills when required. This may be more cost effective than employing a full time trainer.

Training regularly to update skills
Training your staff is an essential part to any business. Retaining and developing your workforce will save your business thousands of pounds each year. Ensure the training is revisited on a regular timetabled basis to maintain standards across your business.
